about me…

i’m rick byrne — a cabinet maker and joiner specialising in bespoke free standing and fitted furniture and joinery.

after serving my time working on domestic and commercial premises, as a carpenter and joiner after leaving school, i later studied furniture craft and modern finishing at hull college, winning a student award for my work, before continuing to work around the country as a shopfitter.

a few years later i took a complete career change to become a press photographer, studying again, this time for a HND in photography and digital imaging, before working for both local and national newspapers. almost 20 years later i returned to the job that gives me the most joy and satisfaction.

with byrne the maker, i am able to bring extensive experience i gained from working on high-end shop and office fit-outs around the country — including projects in london’s mayfair and savile row. working with numerous different hardwoods and premium finishes, i developed a keen understanding of how to build spaces that combine craftsmanship, durability, and refined design.

every project is made by hand in my small workshop, combining traditional craftsmanship with a modern design sensibility. whether it’s a fitted media unit, a boot room bench, or a one-off commission, i put the same attention to detail into each piece.
